13000 phones of Chinese company were running on the same number, yet got ‘clean chit’

new Delhi
Every phone and smartphone has its IMEI number identified from small to big and expensive. The International Mobile Equipment Identity numbers are different for all devices and dual SIM smartphones have two IMEI numbers. However, many times there are cases of more than one phone running on the same IMEI, but now a game has come up which has shocked everyone. A case of running 13,000 phones on the same IMEI number has surfaced in Meerut, UP.

Cases of IMEI cloning have been reported earlier and buyers should especially avoid such cloning. The matter surfaced is related to a Chinese company, on whose behalf the IMEI number of about 13 thousand phones being sold in India was the same. First of all it is important to understand what is the meaning of IMEI number. In fact, every device that can connect to a wireless connection is given a unique identity. That is, the IMEI number is similar to the name of a device, from which it can be identified (even when the SIM is not).

The company received a clean chit
Thousands of smartphones having the same IMEI number means that they cannot be identified separately and such phones can be used in any kind of illegal activity. You will be surprised to know that the Chinese company has been given a ‘clean chit’ even after doing so. The company has said in its defense that this was due to a technical glitch. Actually, India’s current IT Act does not consider it a crime and the existing Act needs to be updated according to new types of Crimes.

It is important to stay alert
The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has said that there are no uniform guidelines to take action on the matter that has surfaced. It is clear that the responsibility of the buyer increases in such a way because if thousands of people are using your own IMEI number, then you can be caught in exchange for the wrong done by them. After purchasing a new phone, you can verify the IMEI number by visiting the company’s official site. Apart from this, you should buy the phone only from trusted brands.
