Just 18 years ago, the team that went on a tour of England was playing a Test match at the India Lord's ground. In this Test, if Agarkar got a chance to bat, he scored a century here and made his name on the Honors Board of Lord's ground. This is the only century in international cricket to Agarkar.
This was the first match of the four-Test series, in which Agarkar played an unbeaten 109 runs as a bowler. Agar played this innings on the last day of this match when Team India was chasing a huge target of 568 runs in the fourth innings of the match. In this innings of 190 balls, the Mumbai player hit 16 fours.
Lord's Cricket Ground has also recalled this special moment of Agarkar's life on Twitter. With his twitter handle, Lord's Cricket Ground posted a video of the moment that made Agarkar's century, “Your only Test century in 2002 at Lord's today, Ajit Agarkar made it to the honors board.”
However, this effort of Agarkar could not avert Team India's defeat. Apart from him, no Indian batsman could score a century in both innings of the match. India lost the match by 170 runs.
In his international career, this fast bowler has played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs and 4 T20 Internationals. In all three formats, he took a total of 349 wickets in his name and during this time he also got 1855 runs off his bat.
He took 288 wickets in ODI cricket. After retiring from cricket, he was also the chairman of the Mumbai Senior Selection Committee in the past.
