it’s official. No superstar (other than Ranveer Singh) will appear on the big screen with his new release in 2020. Even though theaters have opened, the top stars and superstars of Bollywood are still shying away from bringing their films to theaters.
Now those who are ready to wait for next year are Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, John Abraham and Karthik Aryan.

At first it seemed that Akshay Kumar would bring his soyvanshi this Diwali. The release date was also announced by Reliance. Although the opening of the theater is delayed in October-October and Maharashtra to decide about the ‘unlocking’ of theaters, a decision was taken that the Rohit Shetty-directed action-drama-thriller will now only be seen in 2021 .
However, the expectations were still focused on the Laxmibai bomb. Ultimately, this is going to be the first OTT release post in theaters, meaning that there was a possibility of parallel releases on the big screen as well as on the digital medium. Although the OTT agreement is not going to happen despite being water-tight, as a result it is going to be a special release for the horror comedy on Disney + Hotstar, with not even a quota of possibility for any kind of theatrical drama is .
Sad but true!
No wonder, the decision was already well taken by some other superstars. Even though Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan have completed shooting for Lal Singh Chadha earlier this week, the release will be in 2021 only. Once the lockdown was announced, the makers of the One Dump remake had indicated that Christmas 2020 would not mark the film’s arrival. Nevertheless, since there are still two months left, an expectation is being made against Asha that the open slot could be used by Aamir Khan.
Well, scared of such an epidemic that the superstar has given up his favorite release date (Aamir likes to come on Christmas, in which case Dangal, PK, Dhoom: 3 and 3 Idiots) and is now choosing the next best Is slot for 2021.
Even Salman Khan is not in a hurry. He recalled his favorite Eid date for Radhe’s release. However, he recently wrapped up shooting for action entertainer with his Dabangg 3 and Wanted director Prabhudheva. Apart from Aamir Khan, he also loves the Christmas slot when it is available. After all, it wasn’t long ago when he delivered a mega blockbuster as Tiger Zinda Hai on Christmas. However, he too has decided to wait for a while before coming up with his ‘masala’ entertainment. Will it be Eid 2021 for Radhe? Let’s hope for it!

Another star who had some major plans for 2020 is John Abraham. If things had gone according to plan, they would have got three releases in a span of 100 days – Mumbai Saga, Halla and Satyamev Jayate 2. However, the arrival of the epidemic meant that the shooting of Satyamev Jayate 2 would start in the coming week itself. The deck would be restarted when the attack would take place for the action director to fly from abroad (which would now be in the first quarter of 2021).
Meanwhile, Mumbai Saga has only one week’s work remaining and will be completed by mid-November. This could well have allowed the Sanjay Gupta starrer Gangster Drama to be released at Christmas, with post production work hastened. However, there is no plan that it will go through a hasty approach in 2021 itself, rather than a ‘made for the big screen’ spice flick currently. John Abraham is not complaining either and is now keen to bring his full film in 2021.
As Karthik Aryan, he had two films in different stages of production, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 and Dostana 2. While the former is near the finishing line, the latter has some work left before it can move into post production. He will resume shooting for the Anees Bazmee-directed horror comedy in January. As a result, the arrival of any film in 2020 will be ruled out for Karthik Aryan, who now has five films in various stages of production, the other three being Shashank Khaitan’s next, Om Raut’s next and Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapremulu’s remake Huh.
This means that Ranveer Singh will be the only superstar to appear on the big screen this year, whose ’83 will be a screen hit on Christmas 2020. At least that’s what the plans for the Kabir Khan-directed film look like, though there is still one to tread the path carefully. Audience response will be watched very carefully over the next few months and the final decision can be announced by 15 November. After all, Biggie, based on India’s famous World Cup victory in 1983, needs a good market campaign and will require a month.
He is also entitled with the first major release before the close of the year of an event. Crossing Fingers Here!
