Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman has praised former captain Anil Kumble. He has said that Kumble is a great player in every sense, who has gone ahead and performed his duty.
Laxman had tweeted a few days ago that he would honor the players with whom he has played and who have played an important role in giving a new direction to his career.
On Monday, Laxman praised Kumble. During this time, he posted a picture of the Test against the West Indies of 2002 in which Kumble bowled with a broken jaw.
Laxman tweeted, 'Big man in every sense. He moves beyond every boundary for duty. The patience, passion and bravery seen in this picture is the best way to describe Anil Kumble.
VVS wrote, “Never give up, whatever happens, it is the same quality that made Anil Kumble a cricketer of this high status”.
That was the 2002 Test draw. Kumble was injured by Mervon Dillon. His jaw was broken. However, despite further pain, Kumble went to bowling. He bowled 14 consecutive overs and took one wicket for 29 runs. He took the valuable wicket of Brian Lara.
Kumble played 132 Tests and 271 ODIs for India. He has 619 wickets in Tests and 337 wickets in ODIs. In the Test, he is third after Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708).
