Demand for banning Chinese apps and buycot of products had been rising ever since the martyrdom of soldiers in the Galvan Valley on 15 June amid tensions over the India-China border. The real reason for banning apps is stated in the official statement by the Ministry of Information and Technology. It said that the Ministry was receiving complaints related to these apps from different sources and in several reports, there was also a misuse of data of users.

According to the official statement, there were also reports of 'users stealing data and storing it incorrectly in servers outside India' from Android and iOS platforms. The statement said that in view of the complaints related to data theft, it has been found that it is a threat to India's national security and it can also be tried to harm the unity and integrity of India. In such a situation, the need to immediately take emergency action against these apps has been felt.

Action has been taken on Chinese apps under the 69A section of the Information Technology Act and the Information Technology (Access to Public Information Security Blocking) Rules, 2009. The list of banned apps includes apps like Popular TicketTock, Shareite, UG Browser, Baidu Map, Hello, Like, Me Community, Club Factory, UC News, Weibo, Me Video Call-Xiaomi, Vivo Video, Clean Master and Cam Scanner. , Which has millions of downloads.

Data security required
It was decided by the government to ban these apps so that they do not access the data of the citizens of the country and it should not be misused. It was also said by the Government of India agency Computer Emergency Response Team CERT-In that there have been cases of violation of privacy of users in many apps. Apart from this, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center and the Home Ministry were also asked to block these malicious apps.
