The best player (man of the match) for the second Test cricket match between India and Australia starting on 26 December (Boxing Day) will be awarded the Johnny Mulag Medal. Johnny Mulag was the captain of the first Australian team to go on a foreign tour. The team toured Britain in 1868 under his leadership. Cricket Australia (CA) wrote on its Twitter handle, ‘The best player of the Boxing Day Test will be awarded the Mulag Medal. It is named after the legendary Johnny Mulag, captain of the 1868 cricket team. This team was the first Australian team to tour internationally.
Mulag’s real name was Unarimin and he led the regional team in 1868. In this tour, he played 45 matches out of 47 and scored 1698 runs at an average of 23.

He also bowled 1877 overs, of which 831 overs were maiden and took 245 wickets at an average of 10. In his career he also played the role of improvised wicketkeeper and did four stumpings.
