India-Australia players will tie a black stripe in memory of Dean Jones in the first match of the three-match ODI series played on Friday and will also keep a minute’s silence before the match. The first match will be played at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) where memories of Jones’ playing days will be shown on the big screen before the start of the match.
Tribute to dean jones
Jones has played 52 Test matches and 164 ODIs for his country. He died of a heart attack in Mumbai on 24 September. According to the report of the Australian newspaper Sydney Morning Herald, ‘The first tribute will be paid in the first ODI against India at the SCG on Friday where a minute of silence will be kept before the start of the match and both teams will get off the black band. Highlights of his career will also be shown on the big screen.

Cricket Australia has planned to pay tribute to him in the second Test match to be held at Jones’ house. The second match will be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground (SCG). The report states, ‘The greatest honor however has been saved for the Boxing Day Test match to be held at the MCG. During tea time at 3:24 pm on the first day of the match, Jones’ wife Jane and family will take part in the tribute. Jones’ friend, writer and poet Chris Driscoll will read the poem.
