Aus vs Ind-Sheffield Shield experience will be helpful against India: Agar

Australian spin all-rounder Ashton Egger said the experience during the recent Sheffield Shield matches would help him in the upcoming series against India. Twenty-seven-year-old Agar played in both Australia’s limited-overs formats last summer but failed to make it to the ODI squad during the tour of England in September.

He is now set to join limited-overs teammates from Sunday after completing a two-week separation in Perth after the Sheffield Shield and hopes that the experience of the last few weeks will help him in the upcoming series. Eger took 10 wickets in three matches for Western Australia in October-November.

He told Cricket.com au, ‘I bowled close to 150 overs in three shield matches. I also bowled on some tough wickets. He said, ‘After thinking about trying to get the batsmen out on a good wicket, you really get help in ODIs and T20 series.’

Eger, however, has not played in ODIs since playing a 50-over match in South Africa in March, following a local lockdown due to the Covid-19pandemic.

He said, “Yes, I have not played white ball cricket for a long time but I am not worried about it. It is very difficult to make a place in the ODI team. I have done everything to choose myself for T20 cricket. I feel more confident in this format. ‘ Agar has taken 30 wickets in 27 T20 Internationals while taking 10 wickets in 13 ODIs in his career.
