Adarsh Gourao, who played the role of Balaram Halwai in Ramin Baharani’s ‘The White Tiger’, has been nominated in the category of Leading Actor for the BAFTA Awards 2021. Nomination list for 74Th The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards were announced on Tuesday (9 March).
Gaurav will compete with Riz Ahmed, (Sound of Metal), the late Chadwick Bosman (Ma Rainey Black Black Bottom), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Taher Rahim (The Mauritian) and Mads Mickelson (Another Round) for the winning trophy. The Indian actor received critical acclaim for his power-packed performance in the drama film co-starring Priyanka Chopra and Rajkumar Rao.

‘The White Tiger’ has also been nominated in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay. Priyanka Chopra, who is one of the film’s executive producers, took to Twitter to congratulate Adarsh and the team for securing nominations in two main categories. The ‘Quantico’ star said that her co-star Gaurav has achieved all the recognition.

Chopra wrote in another tweet, “I feel very proud to be an executive producer on this film!
Priyanka, who played the role of Pinky in ‘The White Tiger’, was placed on the BAFTA long list as a supporting actress. The ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actress failed to make it to the final list in her category.
‘The White Tiger’ is based on Arvind Adiga’s novel of the same name. Released on Netflix, the film focused on the story of Balarama, who managed to come out of poverty using the presence of his mind and intellect. The film received good response from the audience upon its release to the streaming giant.
Indian actor who was nominated at BAFTA Awards
Veteran actors Anupam Kher and Suraj Sharma have previously received nominations at the BAFTA Awards. While Kher was nominated for his performance in ‘The Boy with the Topknot’ in the supporting actor category, Sharma garnered a Rising Star nomination for ‘Life of Pi’.
The BAFTA Awards 2021 will take place on 10 and 11 April at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
