Bangladesh scored 242, losing 5 wickets in their first innings on Wednesday, on the first day of the first Test match against the West Indies thanks to a half-century from opener Shadman Islam (59). Playing his 7th Test match of his career, Shadman hit 6 fours in his restrained innings of 154 balls.
West Indies left arm spinner Jomel Varikan bowled in a brilliant style, giving Bangladesh three shocks on the first day. Apart from him, Kemar Roach got one wicket. At the time of stumps, Shakib Al Hasan was on 39 and wicketkeeper batsman Litton Das was playing for 34 runs. A 49-run partnership between the two has been done.

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first but their initial two wickets fell to 66 runs. Tamim Iqbal (9) was bowled by Roach while Najmul Hasan (25) was run out.
Shadman then shared a 53-run partnership for the third wicket with captain Mominul Haque (26). Vicken catches Huck in Campbell’s hands. Mushfiqur Rahim (38) was also the victim.
