Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the team for the remaining three matches of the Test series against Australia due to a fracture in his right hand wrist. It is believed that Mohammad Siraj may get a chance after his injury. During the second innings of India, Pat Cummins’s rising ball hit the pacer’s wrist after which he had to leave the field. His retirement ended the Indian innings at just 36 runs in 21.2 overs.

This is India’s lowest score in Test history. Shami was then taken to the hospital for a scan, where a fracture in his bowling arm was confirmed. Mohammed Siraj performed brilliantly in two practice matches and could make his debut in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Virat Kohli will not be available for the next three matches due to paternity leave, which will cause many troubles to the Indian team.

Shami is one of India’s finest bowlers and in his absence the team will miss a sharp-minded player on the field as the bowling attack weakens. Earlier, it was felt by Kohli that Shami would not be available for the remaining matches of the series. After losing the match by eight wickets, he said, ‘He is in a lot of pain, he is not able to raise his hand either. We will come to know about his injury by evening.

After Shami was injured, the medical staff of the team reached the ground to help him, but after a few tries, he thought it right to return to the dressing room, which ended the Indian innings in 21.2 overs. Team physiotherapist Nitin Patel used pain-reducing sprays but he was not comfortable and decided not to bat. The Indian team has now trailed 0–1 in the four-match series. The second match between the two teams will be played in Melbourne from 26 December (Boxing Day).
