After the win against India in Chennai, star batsman Joe Root has equaled the record for winning the most Test matches for England as a captain. Under Root’s captaincy, England defeated India by a huge margin of 227 runs in the first Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.
Root has captained 47 Tests for England so far, in which he has won 26 Tests. Prior to Root, the record of winning the most Test matches for England as captain was in the name of Michael Vaughan, who won 26 matches 51 Test matches as captain.

In addition to Vaughan, Andrew Strauss has won 24 in 50 Tests, Alastair Cook 24 in 59 Tests and Peter May in 41 Tests, winning 20 matches as captain.
