The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Sunday removed Justice (retd) Deepak Verma from the post of Lokpal during the apex council meeting and re-appointed Justice (retd) Badar Durrej Ahmed to the post. Justice Verma is also the Lokpal of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and the apex council believes that a person cannot hold the same post in two different state units.
The meeting was attended by 11 members, including three government nominees, and it was unanimously decided to appoint Justice Ahmed to the post of Lokpal. A member of the apex council said on the condition of secrecy, ‘This decision (to change the Lokpal) was taken unanimously. He was making all his decisions arbitrarily without consulting the apex council. The legal fees were running into crores of rupees and employees were not being paid salaries.
He said, ‘We have appointed Justice Badar Durrej Ahmed. They have given their consent. This decision will be approved in the next General Assembly (AGM). It is also learned that Saurabh Chadha has been appointed as the legal adviser of DDCA.
