MSK Prasad, former chief selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), believes that young batsman Devdutt Padyakkal may have to wait for his Test debut. Padikkal has done brilliantly in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore and he also scored a century against Rajasthan Royals this season.
According to SportsKeeda, Prasad said, ‘Padikkal needs to spend another good year in the domestic season to be a part of the Indian Test team. There is no doubt that he is a future player, but if you look at Test cricket, Paddikal will have to do well in domestic cricket for another year.
Padikkal plays for Karnataka in domestic tournaments. He was the second batsman in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to have scored the most runs, scoring 737 runs in seven innings in the 2020–21 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Padikkal had scored four centuries and three half-centuries during this period. Next to Padikkal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was Prithvi Shaw of Mumbai, who scored 827 runs in eight innings.
