Today is 35th birthday of Dinesh Karthik. He was born on this day in 1985. Karthik got a place in the Indian team when Parthiv Patel's form deteriorated. In 2004, he made his ODI debut at Lord's against England. Karthik came into the public eye when he stumped Michael Vaughan with one hand. A few months later, the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper was making his test debut. Against Australia in Mumbai.
Stay in and out of the team
Karthik's journey to the Test, however, did not start on a good note. He made just one fifty in ten Tests. Karthik was just about to confirm his place in the team that Mahendra Singh Dhoni's entry is on the screen. Karthik gets a second chance on India's tour of South Africa in 2006. The following year, in 2007, he makes his first Test century in Dhaka.
When trying to create an opener
There was also a time when Karthik was tried as an expert opener in Test cricket. He was also given some opportunities. However, Karthik's performance was not very memorable there either. But once Dhoni was confirmed in the team, the path became very difficult for Karthik. When Dhoni retired in Test cricket, the selectors preferred Wriddhiman Saha.
Karthik, however, is spreading his fire in the IPL after this. He was also included in the most expensive players of the IPL. He also captained Kolkata Knight Riders.
Most memorable moment
In 2018, Karthik played the innings of his career which he could hardly forget. India needed 34 runs in the final of the Nidahas Trophy against Bangladesh. In this match played in Colombo, Karthik scored 29 runs off 8 balls. India needed 34 runs in the last two overs of the T20 match. Karthik hit 22 runs in the 19th over.
