East Bengal, one of the oldest football clubs in the country, completed its 100 years on Saturday. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the footballers, club members and fans associated with it.
PM Modi wrote on Twitter, 'Congratulations to footballers, club members and of course the fans on the completion of 100 years of East Bengal Football Club .. It is a mile for the Indian sports and football traditions and sports-love culture of West Bengal. Is a stone of The East Bengal torch continued to illuminate the field forever.
The East Bengal club, running since 1 August 1920, has been associated with legendary players like former Indian captain Baichung Bhutia. The club won the ASEAN Cup on 26 July 2003, creating history in Indian football and then became the first club in India to win the officially recognized Asian Football Tournament.
Apart from this, players like RC Sen, Mona Malik, P. Venkatesh, Ahmed Khan, Ram Bahadur, Tulsidas Balaram, Bhaskar Ganguly, Lalrindika Ralte have captained this club.
