England defeated Australia by 24 runs in the second match of the series of three ODIs. In this match played at Old Trafford, England scored 231 for nine wickets in 50 overs but Australia were all out for 207 in 48.4 overs. His fast bowler Joffra Archer played a key role in England’s victory. Archer dismissed Marcus Stoinis after David Warner was dismissed by Jos Buttler. It was a brilliant ball that Stoinis did not answer.
The score of 232 should not have been too much for Australia but England’s bowling made it impossible. England last lost an ODI series in 2015 at their home ground. Archer, who has been consistently doing better, also took three wickets in this match. Archer bowled a ball to Stoinis in the eighth over of the innings to which the right-handed batsman had no answer.
Archer’s high-speed ball, which rose so high after eating the tappy, that Stonis could not recover. At a speed of 144 kilometers per hour, the ball swung in and out rapidly. There was a bounce in this ball and Stoinis was caught at the crease. He tried to play the ball on the side but he looked uncomfortable in front of the pace. The ball took the upper part of his bat and lifted it high in the air and wicketkeeper Jose Butler caught a simple catch. Stoinis was dismissed for just 9 runs.
The video of this ball of Archer has tweeted from ICC. The ICC captioned it with, ‘How are you going to play this ball’.
Australia were 143 for two with 20 overs remaining. His victory seemed easy. But from here, his innings faltered such that the score was 147 for 6 and 166 for eight. For Australia, captain Aaron Finch (73) and Marnus Labushen (48) shared a 107-run partnership for the third wicket.
