Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma credited the bowlers after registering a 13-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League here on Saturday. His team will have to do well in the middle overs at the time of batting.
He praised the bowlers and said, “The bowling unit (Mumbai Bowling) performed brilliantly. We knew it would not be easy (chasing the run for the Sunrisers). When you have such a pitch and the bowler bowls according to the plan, then your job as a captain becomes easy.
Mumbai Indians were all out for 137 runs after Sunrisers Hyderabad were bowled out for five for five in the last over of Kieron Pollard’s 22-ball unbeaten 35 off 22 balls.
At the award ceremony after the match, Rohit Sharma said that his team had put up a good score but they need to bat better in the middle overs.
He said, ‘I felt that this score is good on this pitch. Both teams took advantage of the power play. We can bat better in the middle overs. His team had bowlers like Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman against whom it was not easy to score runs. The pitch was getting slower and it was not easy to score against spinners or fast bowlers.
Man of the Match Pollard said that the runs scored in the last over overs played an important role in the team’s victory.
He said, ‘We have to find a way to score more runs in the last over. Today I raised some extras, which helped the team. On such pitches, the situation is difficult if you have less balls to play. But we practice such situations. ‘
The West Indies veteran said, “Such a win builds confidence and I’m happy to do my job.”
This is Sunrisers Hyderabad’s third consecutive defeat. Captain David Warner said that Johnny Bairstow’s hit wicket and his run out cost the team dearly.
He said, ‘Don’t know how to react. We both were frozen, I was run out, Johnny hit wicket and some bad shots in the middle overs made it clear that if two frozen batsmen are not there till the end then you cannot win the match. ‘ He said this goal could have been achieved but the batsmen did not do well.
He said, ‘Such a goal can be achieved, our batting was poor. If you partner and a frozen batsman stays till the last, then you can achieve the target of 150 runs. You have to play smartly in the middle overs.
He hoped that veteran Kane Williamson would soon recover from injury and join the team. Warner said, ‘I have spoken to the physio and Kane Williamson is recovering well from injury. When he is ready, he will get a chance.
