In the absence of Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, captaining the historic century in Melbourne, led Team India to a strong score. Rahane’s captaincy was being praised right from the first day of the second Test being played in Melbourne, people are praising him even more the way he scored a century on the second day. Rahane’s childhood coach Praveen Amre has appreciated his disciple a lot.
He also told what was spoken to him when Rahane got the captaincy. Praveen said, when Ajinkya got the captaincy, I told him that he has to think like that soldier of the film ‘Lakshya’. There was a bad omen against the soldier and like him he had to win that battle. The enemy was occupying the peaks of Kargil, and he had to climb those peaks, fight and capture the peaks back. The soldier was leading his team on a mission. ‘
Amre went on to say- India was facing perhaps the toughest challenge in Test cricket in the last few 25-30 years. Amre says, ‘It was the worst position to command the captaincy. The team was dismissed for 36 runs (India’s lowest ever score). We were beaten up within three days and were in bad condition. ‘
AUS vs IND 2nd Test Day 2: Kangaroo bowler defeated due to Ajinkya
Praveen Amre says – Almost everyone predicted us a 4–0 defeat in this series. To make things worse our ‘Runamshin’ and regular captain Virat Kohli was not there and ‘Ajju’ did not captain the team for the last two years. In such a situation, I am very happy that he took the ordeal and yet he seems to be passing.
