Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been selected for the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award of the Decade. He was given this award in the Nottingham Test against England in 2011 for recalling Ian Bell after a very poor run-out. Dhoni’s decision was seen as the best example of sportsmanship in the last 10 years.

Dhoni has also been selected as the captain of the ICC Decade ODI Team. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has also been selected as the captain of the T20 team of the decade earlier. The ICC tweeted, ‘Mahendra Singh Dhoni has won the ICC Spirit of the Cricket Award of the decade. Fans have chosen Dhoni’s best decision to recall after Ian Bell’s run out in the 2011 Nottingham Test.

The ICC Decade Award recognizes the significant achievements of the cricketing world over the last 10 years. In this, the fans were asked to choose the winner in all categories for the first time. It also includes the Sir Garfield Sobers and Rachel Heoi Flint Award. The award is given to the best performing players in the past decade in male and female cricket. 15 lakh people elected the winner of their choice with a total of 53 lakh votes.
