Fitness of players is very important in any sport. The challenge is to keep players fit themselves amidst busy schedules and stiff competition. The players of the Indian cricket team are also very cautious about the fit. Players of the Indian national cricket team also have to go through the Yo-Yo test to join Team India.
Time trial test
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now introduced a new fitness test. According to an English newspaper, the name of BCCI’s new fitness test is ‘time trial exercise’. All BCCI contracted players will now be required to pass this test along with Yo Yo. In the ‘Time Trial Test’ the speed and endurance level of the players will be checked. In this test, players have to cover a distance of up to 2 kilometers.

Separate time for pacers and spinners
According to media reports, fast bowlers will have to complete this test in 8 minutes and 15 seconds, while batsmen, spin bowlers and wicketkeepers will have to complete this test in 8 minutes and 30 seconds. Despite the arrival of this test, the players’ yo-yo test (17.1) will remain intact.
A BCCI official told this English newspaper, ‘The board felt that the fitness standard of this time has played a big role to take fitness to a different level. It is important that the fitness level be taken to a different level. Time trial exercise will make us better to compete. The board will continue to raise the standard every year.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has given the green signal
After getting approval from BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah, the players contracted with the board have been informed about this new fitness mark. The board says that this year, three windows have been placed in February, June and August / September.
Exemption to players who returned home after playing in the Test series from Australia
Players who returned home after participating in the Test series from Australia will not have to go through this Test to be held in February. However the players selected for limited overs will take part in this test. India recently defeated Australia 2–1 in the Test series. Team India will play the home Test series against England from 5 February.
