Indian Super League: Odisha FC beat East Bengal to end the season with a win

Odisha FC beat East Bengal 6-5 in their final match of the seventh season of the Indian Super League (ISL) played at the GMAC Stadium on Saturday, scoring a stunning five goals in the second half. With this, Odisha concluded the season with a win. For Odisha, S Lalrejuala scored 33rd, Paul 49th and 66th, Jerry 51st and 67th and Diego Mauricio scored in the 69th minute. At the same time, for East Bengal, Anthony Pilkington scored a goal in the 24th Ravi suicide in the 37th minute, Aaron Amadi in the 60th and Injri Tam, JJ Lalpekhlua scored in the 74th minute.

It was Odisha’s second win in 20 matches and finished the season by finishing 11th with 12 points. East Bengal, playing in the ISL for the first time, suffered a ninth defeat in 20 matches and the team finished the season in ninth place with 17 points.

East Bengal got off to a great start in the match and the team opened their account in the 24th minute. The goal for East Bengal was scored by midfielder Anthony Pilkington with a brilliant shot from outside the box. However, East Bengal’s lead could not be sustained for long and Odisha scored in the 33rd minute to level the score. The goal for Odisha was scored by S. Lalrejuala, whose first goal of the season. Four minutes after the draw, luck again put East Bengal ahead 2–1 in the match as Odisha’s Ravi Kumar hit the ball into his own net in the 37th minute and East Bengal scored thanks to Ravi’s suicide goal in the half. By the time, they kept their lead ahead 2–1. Odisha then started strongly in the second half and the team also took a 3–2 lead with two consecutive goals within two minutes. Odisha first scored 2–2 in the 49th minute with the help of Paul R’s goal and then later took a 3–2 lead thanks to a goal from Jerry’s header in the 51st minute.

East Bengal, however, bounced back and scored in the 60th minute with a goal from Aaron Amadi to level the score at 3-3. Odisha once again stepped up its attack from here and six minutes later, it took a 4-3 lead with Paul’s second goal of the match. After this goal, the team made it 5–3 in the next minute with Jerry’s second goal and then two minutes later Diego Moricio scored a 6-3 lead.

This is Mauricio’s sixth goal of the season for Odisha. Where was East Bengal also going to be behind in this rainy match of goals and the team scored their fourth goal in the 74th minute thanks to JJ Lalpekhlua’s goal. By the 75th minute there were 10 goals in this match. However, after that the contest entered the scheduled time and then the injury time, where East Bengal scored their fifth goal with the help of Amadi’s second goal of the match, but the team could not avoid defeat and Odisha maintained a 6-5 lead. Finished the season with a comfortable win.
