China has suffered a major setback. Apple has started making its flagship phone iPhone 11 at Foxconn plant near Chennai. Apple has made the top of the line model in India for the first time. This is a major success under the 'Make in India' initiative of the Central Government. Production of the phone will be increased in stages. In addition, to increase its dependence on China, Apple may consider exporting the iPhone 11 made in India. Two senior executives of the industry have said this.

IPhone 11 prices may decrease in India

Apple has not yet reduced the price of the phone, as the company is also selling iPhone 11 handsets made in China in India. But, industry executives say this may be an option going forward. Apple saves 22% of import duty from local production. Executives say that Apple is considering a plan to build a new iPhone SE at the Wistron plant near Bangalore. The former iPhone SE continues to be made at this plant.

Will help to increase production base outside China

The recent move points to the growing localization of Apple's manufacturing in the country. The company wants to take advantage of the benefits under the government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. An executive said the move would help Apple expand its production base outside China as well, especially at a time when the US-China relationship is tense. Apple India has not answered Economic Times questions about this.

Company makes 2 more iPhone in India

The Economic Times had earlier published news that Apple wants to expand its manufacturing in India. Another contract manufacturer Pegatron of Apple has recently registered a subsidiary (subsidiary) in India. Among the three new models that Apple launched in September last year, iPhone 11 sales are the highest in India. Executives said that the supply of iPhone 11 made in India has already reached stores. Apple manufactures 2 more handset models in India. The iPhone XR is made at the Foxconn plant. While the iPhone 7 is made in the Wistron factory.
