The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Saurabh Ganguly, visited the Sharjah Stadium, one of the three venues to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. He reviewed the preparations and praised the renovated stadium. The IPL 2020 is being held in the UAE in view of the growing cases of Covid-19in India and the T20 league will be hosted by Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
According to the press release issued here on Monday, Ganguly said that the young players are keen to play in the cricket ground where great players like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar created history. Recently, a massive renovation has been done at the Sharjah Stadium which includes installing new artificial ceilings, upgrading the Royal Suite as well as preparing the commentary box and hospitality box as per the rules related to Kovid-19.
Ganguly was accompanied by IPL chairman Brijesh Patel, former IPL chief Rajiv Shukla and IPL COO Hemang Amin.
BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal, BCCI Joint Secretaries Jayesh George and Mubasir Usmani were also present during this period along with the General Manager of Emirates Cricket Board. Sharjah has to host 12 matches in the upcoming season of IPL.
