IPL 2020: Chennai out of playoff race, what is expected for the rest of the teams

new Delhi
Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians to make the final four race more interesting. However, the four-time champion’s chances of reaching the playoffs have not made any difference. The team has to win just one of the remaining four matches and will be confirmed in the playoffs.

The Royals’ team, however, is sixth with 10 points. She can still make it to the playoffs with 14 points. The Royals have two matches left and if they win the rest, then their hopes of reaching the final four will remain. On Sunday, Rajasthan defeated Mumbai and eliminated the Chennai Super Kings from the Final Four race. For the first time in the history of IPL, the Chennai Super Sings team has not reached the playoffs.

Thanks to Ben Stokes’ century, the Rajasthan team has kept their playoff hopes alive. But still his playoff venue will depend on the performance of Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The remaining two matches of Rajasthan Royals are with Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders. Kings XI Punjab are at fifth and Kolkata Knight Riders fourth. The Kolkata team has three matches remaining and has 12 points. It would be better for him to win all three matches to ensure the place of the playoffs. On Monday, there is a fight between Kings XI and Kolkata Knight Riders. If the Kings XI beat Kolkata Knight Riders and after that both teams lose their next two matches, Rajasthan Royals can qualify for the playoffs by winning the remaining two matches. Because Rajasthan Royals will get 14 points and Kings XI and Kolkata will get 12 points each.

Talking about Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has 8 points from 11 matches. The path is a bit difficult for him. The rest of his three matches are from the top three teams in the table. He will have to win all three matches with a good margin so that the hope for him will be maintained on the basis of the runrate. If Hyderabad or Punjab get 14 points, the chances will be very low for the Royals. The Royals have a net runrate of -0.505 and are worse than the rest of the teams involved in the playoffs. However, it is only for fourth place from Kolkata Knight Riders (0.476).

All the teams in the top 3 – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore – have 14 points each and need just one win to secure a place in the playoffs. Although without them, they can reach the final four but no team would like to take such a threat.
