Stung by two consecutive defeats, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will try to secure a place in the playoffs by winning the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) here on Saturday. But this task will not be easy for Virat Kohli’s team as the Sunrisers team is also in the race for the playoffs.
Morale of Hyderabad increased
Sunrisers Hyderabad won against Delhi Capitals after which the morale of the team has increased. As of now, only Chennai Super Kings is the only team that has been eliminated from the playoff race. He also spoiled his equation by winning the last ball over Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday. So far, only Mumbai Indians have been confirmed in the playoffs.
All teams except Chennai remain hopeful
Except Chennai, the remaining six teams remain in the race. They also include RCB and Sunrisers. Despite losing the last two matches to Chennai and Mumbai, RCB are still in a better position than the Sunrisers in the points table. RCB will have to win one of the last two matches against Sunrisers and Delhi Capitals to ensure a place in the playoffs. Even after losing both their matches, RCB will still have 14 points and can still qualify on the basis of better net run rate but for this they will need favorable results in other matches as well.
RCB’s problems will increase after defeat
However, the loss of the last two matches will affect the net run rate of RCB and in such a situation, he may be out. The Sunrisers currently have 10 points from 12 matches. He will have to win both the remaining matches to keep his hopes of a place in the knockout alive. Sunrisers face Mumbai after RCB. It is not enough for Sunrisers to win both the matches. He would have to hope that none of RCB, Delhi (both 14) and Kings XI Punjab (12 points) could reach 16 points. In such a situation the Sunrisers could reach the playoffs at a better run rate.
2 consecutive defeats
If you talk about performance, then RCB now need to play well after two consecutive defeats. These defeats would certainly have lowered his morale. Chennai defeated Kohli by eight wickets and Mumbai by five wickets. RCB’s batting is its strong side. He has batsmen in his batting department like Kohli, young opener Devdutt Padikkal, AB de Villiers and Aaron Finch.
Navdeep Saini injured
In the last match, Finch was replaced by Josh Phillip, who scored 33 runs. The team’s lower order batsmen Shivam Dubey, Gurkirat Mann, Chris Maurice need to take more responsibility. The bowling of the team has been affected by the injury of Navdeep Saini. Dale Steyn failed to impress again and could be replaced by Isuru Udana in the playing XI.
Hyderabad in superb form
From the other side, the Sunrisers scored a big win over Delhi by 88 runs and will try to maintain this form. Captain David Warner (66) and Wriddhiman Saha (87) shared a 107-run stand for the first wicket while Manish Pandey scored 44 runs. Rashid Khan is doing his best in bowling. He took three wickets for seven runs against the Sunrisers. Apart from Rashid, Sandeep Sharma and T Natarajan also made an impact.
