Learned something from Virat, Rohit and Dhoni, then changed their batting: Shreyas Iyer

IPL team Delhi Capitals young batsman Shreyas Iyer has said that he has made a change in his game by looking at veterans like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In a special conversation with our colleague Times of India, he said that he has used some of the features of Virat, Rohit and Dhoni in his game.

Shreyas said, ‘Till a few years ago I used to think differently about my batting but now there has been a change. Now I know when to pick a single and when to change my mind. You learn a lot by watching Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mahendra Singh Dhoni playing. I too have taken some of his characteristics and tried to use him in my batting.

There was a lot of discussion for Team India’s number-4 position in the World Cup, but Shreyas was not included in the team, to which he said, ‘I was enjoying that moment. I was doing well, but there are some ups and downs. I am happy that all this happened to me at an early stage because as a human I learned a lot from it. I learned a lot from my failure.


Regarding domestic cricket, he said, ‘There was a time when I was scoring runs but not regularly. There was no continuity in my game. My average did not fall but as a player I was not satisfied. Yes, but now when I think about it, it becomes clear that I was performing in every game.

Talking about being active on social media, he said, ‘I think social media is essential for every player, I used to think of making funny videos (during lockdown) and kept myself busy, I saw other players too He is doing what he loves to see. He further said that he only posts funny photo-videos on social media, so do not worry too much about it.
