Star batsman Lokesh Rahul has been included in Team India for the Test series against Australia later this year. On this, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar says that Rahul got a place in the Test team on the basis of IPL and this breaks the morale of the players playing in Ranji Trophy.
Rahul, who captains Kings XI Punjab in IPL-13, has been selected in the Indian team for the four-match Test series to be held in Australia in December-January. Rahul has scored 595 runs in 12 matches in the current season of the league and the Orange Cap is still with him.

Manjrekar tweeted, ‘This is a bad example being made, the player for the Test team is selected based on the performance of the IPL. You set a bad example when selecting a Test team based on the performance of the IPL. Especially when the last few Test matches of the player have not been good.
He further wrote, ‘That player succeeds or fails, it doesn’t matter. Such a selection breaks the morale of the players playing in Ranji.
Manjrekar, stating Rahul’s Test performance of the last five matches, said, “Rahul has averaged against the West Indies at home for the last five Test series – South Africa, England.” I would like to say that he is very lucky that he was recalled to the Test team based on his performance in IPL. Now we should hope that he will make the most of this opportunity. My best wishes.
Rahul has played 36 Test matches so far with a total of 2006 runs with the help of five centuries and 11 half-centuries. He has also scored a total of 1461 runs in 12 ODIs and 41 T20 Internationals in 32 ODIs.
Rahul was dropped from the Test team after a poor performance in the West Indies series. He scored a total of 101 runs in four innings. He was also not selected in the India-A squad that toured New Zealand.
