New features of WhatsApp: You will be able to decide the photo quality before sending, if you forget the password, then the backup will not be able to restore

Sanyam Jain. WhatsApp is rolling out new features for its Android beta users. The company will now freely encrypt your backups in the cloud and this feature will appear in the Android beta update 2.21.15.5. The stable version of WhatsApp currently lets you store all your chats in a third-party app, Google Drive.

Know how it will workEncryption?

  • All your chats will be password protected, so you will need to create a password using which you will be able to restore all your chats. Note that if you forget your password, WhatsApp will not be able to restore your chat history.
  • WaBetaInfo said that these passwords will remain private and will not be shared with WhatsApp, Facebook, Google or Apple. This feature also supports 64-bit key encryption which can be used to restore your password. WhatsApp will help generate a random 64-digit encryption code, but if you forget this code, you will not be able to access your data.

These three options will be something like this

  • The first one is “Best Quality”, as the name suggests, but it seems that WhatsApp is not offering the option to send very high-quality pictures. Photos are still compressed, even if the compression is light.
  • WhatsApp is actually implementing a compression algorithm, keeping about 80% of the original quality and, if the photo is larger than 2048×2048, the image can be resized. According to reports, the old configuration allowed to keep around 70% quality, but large images were always resized.
  • WaetaInfo suggests that the platform may increase the percentage of original quality to offer better quality images. The other two options you get are “Auto” and “Data Saver”. At the moment, it is unknown when the company plans to release these features to the public.
