new Delhi: It was a big week for OTT releases, what happened to five notable releases. These were Coolie No. 1, Criminal Justice: Behind the Closed Door, AK V / S AK, Black Widow and Sandwich Forever. The good thing was that each of these was of a different style.
OTT Round Up – Female Widows with and Without Stop Black Widows; Christmas set for Coolie No.1, AK V / S AK, Criminal Justice and Sandwich Forever Sparkle
Let’s talk about criminal justice: behind closed doors first. It was a massive surprise and one of the most intense web series to come out of the Indian OTT sector in 2020. Raising issues of domestic abuse and marital rape, this Pankaj Tripathi and Kirti Kulhari starrer said no words. Whatever and as it is said. Recalling the kind of dark theme and narrative that Shefali Chhaiya’s Delhi Crime reminded, this Rohan Sippy and Arjun Mukherjee-directed drama has so far been on the heels of its best offering for 2020 by Bravo Entertainment There is another winner.
AK v / s AK is clearly the wonder of the season. 2020 has been a mixed year for Netflix when it comes to Indian content but with the original film directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, they have scored a winner here. Although the film saw a unique marketing and promotional campaign around it, the audience did not quite prepare for the kind of drama that Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap planned to shed light on.
The film Coolie No.1, starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, had seen some of the biggest hype so far for the OTT film En Route release and ensured very good eyeballs on the day of its arrival at Amazon Prime. For the producers (Washu Bhagnani, Jackie Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh) and director David Dhawan, it was a joy as the film managed to defeat the trolls and enjoy the best character ever for a straightforward digital film Was living Yes, the pranksters still persist on this and the negativity of social media has increased even more. However, the number tells a different story and, if reports are to be believed, Amazon Prime has become quite buzzing after the weekend’s response.
Meanwhile ZEE5 released their crime thriller Black Widow with Mona Singh, Shamita Shetty and Swastika Mukherjee coming together. Pretty much as a pulp fiction, it made for an easy timepass watch, for those who prefer a dash of thrill to their television watch before retiring for the night. While this is a completely cinematic freedom, the fast-paced narrative ensures that you move quickly to the next scene.
On the other hand, Rohan Sippy had a double bill in addition to criminal justice: behind the closed doors, his sitcom Sandwich was released forever. Along with Kunal Roy Kapur and Ahana Kumra, Sony Liv’s offering is an urban romance for those who are exposed to such style from their Hollywood counterpart.
In the coming days, there are two major releases that are coming to OTT. Both are ZEE5 offerings where Paurashpur ALT is a flagship show in partnership with Balaji while Nail Polish is an original film which is standalone.
Paurashpur is a play from the time of ‘Raja Maharaja’ and its basic foundation is love, lust, power and crime. Annu Kapoor and Milind Soman, alongside Shilpa Shinde and Shaheer Sheikh, were seen in never-before-seen roles, the grandly designed web series arrives on December 29.
On the other hand the new year court room drama will begin with the arrival of Nail Polish which is directed by Arjun Rampal. The actor has previously made a web series The Final Call for ZEE5 and now that he is donating a coat of attorney, a person is waiting to see his brooding act on Manav Kaul as well as on display again . The film premieres on 1 January.
Paurashpur – 29 December – ALT Balaji and ZEE5
Nail Polish – 1 January – ZEE5
