Left-arm veteran fast bowler Wahab Riaz gets warning on Saturday by umpires on Saturday for violating Covid-19rules by putting saliva on the ball during the first T20 International between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. The incident happened in the 11th over of Zimbabwe’s innings when Wahab was bowled by umpires Aleem Dar and Asia Yakub for bowling and asked the bowler to keep the ball on the ground.
The reserve umpire then brought the wipes to the ground, clearing the ball from the umpires and then the game resumed. Former Pakistan captain and now commentator Rameez Raja jokingly said that while clearing the ball, it seemed as if the umpire was touching the hand grenade. In August, Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Aamir was warned to apply saliva to the ball during the first T20 International against England at Old Trafford.
During the Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli and Rajasthan Royals batsman Robin Uthappa were seen salivating at the ball during fielding against Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.
The International Cricket Council rules impose a penalty of five points on the bowling team after being warned three times for applying saliva to the ball.
