Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani said the Asia Cup 2021 could be postponed if India reach the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in June this year while the WTC final will also be played from 18 to 22 June at the Lord’s ground in London.
Ehsan told reporters in Karachi, “The Asia Cup was to take place last year but it was postponed for 2021. In the current situation it seems that it cannot be held this year as the WTC final is also due in June. Sri Lanka has said that it will try to hold this tournament in June.
After India won the third Test against England by 10 wickets, Team India’s hopes of reaching the final of WTC have become stronger. However, India will have to win the fourth Test from England to reach the final of this championship. Ehsan said, “There is a conflict of dates between the two tournaments.” We feel that the Asia Cup will not be held and it should be postponed till 2023.
The Asia Cup was scheduled to be held in September last year but was postponed due to the Corona epidemic. Pakistan was supposed to host the Asia Cup but appealed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change the venue, citing security reasons.
