Question on captaincy in Test, Azhar Ali said – just a rumor, PCB did not talk

Karachi
Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali on Thursday termed the reports as mere rumors stating that he might lose his post. He said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet spoken to him on this issue.

PCB CEO Wasim Khan had said that he could not confirm whether Azhar would remain captain for the tour of New Zealand. Only after this, speculations were being made that Babar Azam could be given the captaincy of the Test team instead of Azhar.

Azhar told reporters at a virtual press conference in Karachi, ‘The PCB has not yet discussed this with me and I too came to know about this rumor from the media. So, I am not in a position to say anything about it right now. ‘

Azhar, who has played 81 Test matches so far, was appointed Test captain in October last year and in May the PCB confirmed him to be the captain for 2020-21. He said, ‘What can I say when no one has talked to me about it. I am assuming that it is a rumor and nothing else.
