Fast bowler Deepak Chahar bowled the fifth ball of the third over of the Punjab innings. Chris Gayle was on strike. Gayle played the shot straight towards the fielder where Ravindra Jadeja was present. Jadeja quickly picked up the ball and hit the wickets as fast as he could. KL Rahul could not reach the crease in time and in this way Punjab lost their big wicket. Rahul scored 5 runs off 7 balls. He hit a four in his innings. Punjab had lost their two wickets for 16 runs.
Chahar caught Chris Gayle at the hands of Jadeja on the second ball of the fifth over of the innings. This time Chahar’s imitation could not get the ball to Gayle and tried to drive it. Gayle could not detect the pace of the ball properly and Jadeja took a brilliant dive on the right side at the backward point and caught the catch. Gayle was dismissed for 10 runs off 10 balls. The Caribbean opener hit 2 fours in his short innings.
Earlier, Chennai won the toss and decided to field first. Punjab had lost their five wickets for a total of 26 runs.
