Road Safety World Series: Sri Lanka Legends second consecutive win with unbeaten half-century from Tillakaratne Dilshan

Sri Lanka Legends defeated South Africa Legends by 9 wickets in the Road Safety World Series played on Monday at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Sri Lanka’s victory included skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan’s unbeaten 50 runs.

Sri Lanka Legends won the toss and invited South Africa Legends to bat. South Africa’s team collapsed for 89 runs in 18.5 overs. Chasing the target, Sri Lanka Legends won the match by scoring 92 runs for one wicket in 13.2 overs.

This is Sri Lanka’s second consecutive win in the tournament. For Sri Lanka, Dilshan scored an unbeaten 50 from 40 balls with the help of seven fours, while Upul Tharanga scored an unbeaten 27 from 31 balls with the help of five fours.

Earlier, South Africa had a very poor start and on the first ball of the match, Alviro Peterson was run out for a quick run to steal the run. By the time South Africa recovered from the setback, Nuwan Kulasekara bowled Loots Boosman. Boosman was dismissed without opening a four-ball game. After this, Dhumika Prasad gave the third blow to South Africa by dismissing Morene Van Wyk.

Van Wyk scored two runs. After the initial setback, Andrew Putick tried to handle South Africa’s innings but then Janadeer de Bruyn fell lbw to Rangana Herath.

De Bruyne scored 15 runs off 14 balls with two fours. Ajanta Mendis then dismissed Justin Kemp to give South Africa a fifth blow. Kemp scored seven runs. Shortly afterwards, Sanath Jayasuriya bowled Putik to end his innings. Putik scored 39 runs from 46 balls with the help of four fours.

Dilshan dismissed captain Jonty Rhodes. Rhodes scored two runs in five balls. South Africa’s innings could not recover after this and was all out on the score of less than 100 runs. For Sri Lanka, Kulasekara took two wickets, Herath two and Jayasuriya took two wickets while Dilshan, Dhamika and Mendis took one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Jayasuriya and Dilshan gave Sri Lanka a tight start. But Garnet Kruger bowled Jayasuriya and gave Sri Lanka its first blow. Jayasuriya scored eight runs off nine balls with the help of two fours. For South Africa, Kruger took one wicket.
