The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended the name of the limited overs team vice-captain Rohit Sharma for the 'Khel Ratna' award. Rohit's opening partner Shikhar Dhawan's name has once again been sent for the Arjuna Award. The name of India's senior most fast bowler Ishant Sharma has also been sent for the Arjuna Award.
Left-handed batsman Dhawan missed the Arjuna Award in 2018. In the women's section, all-rounder Deepti Sharma's name has been sent for the Arjuna Award, which has been performing brilliantly in both ODIs and T20s for the last three years.
Rohit had performed brilliantly in the 50-over World Cup in 2019. The right-handed classical batsman had scored five centuries in this World Cup. Apart from this, he also scored 556 runs in five Tests at an amazing average of 92.66. In ODI cricket, he scored 1657 runs at an average of 57.30 in 2019.
If Rohit gets this honor, he will be the fourth cricketer to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
In a media release, BCCI President Saurabh Ganguly said, “We analyzed a lot of data and tested the players on many other parameters as well, only after that the list was prepared.”
