Rohit Sharma if fit, can be included in Australia tour: Saurabh Ganguly

new Delhi
Many questions are being raised over the BCCI’s decision not to select Rohit Sharma in the Indian team for the India tour of Australia. Rohit was not selected in T20, ODI and Test in any team. Rohit was not included on the tour starting this month citing injury and fitness (Rohit Sharma Fitness). The issue was further compounded when Mumbai Indians shared several videos and photos of Rohit Sharma practicing.

On this issue, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed its opinion on Rohit Sharma being part of the Indian team during the tour of Australia. Ganguly said that if Rohit proves his fitness, the selectors will definitely consider his name.

Ganguly told in a special interview to the English newspaper Hindustan Times, ‘As far as Rohit is concerned, we want him fit for the tour of Australia. Whenever he is fit, I am sure that the selectors will definitely consider his position.

Rohit has not played any match since the Double Super Over match against Kings XI Punjab. He has a muscle injury. Kieran Pollard is leading the team. However the defending champions are hopeful that Rohit will be fit until the playoffs. Ganguly was asked if Rohit should get out of the league so that the injury would not escalate further, Ganguly said, “We did not see him playing.”

Apart from Rohit, there are also questions about the fitness of senior fast bowler Ishant Sharma and that is why he has not been included in the Test team.

Ganguly said on this, ‘We are keeping an eye on the fitness of both Ishant and Rohit. Ishant is not completely out. He will be part of the Test series.

While Rohit is currently with the Mumbai Indians team in the UAE, Ishant is rehabbing in India.

Ganguly said that despite the bio-bubble and quarantine rules, the option of sending both players to Australia later was open. Ganguly said, ‘Could send them later. Flights are available for Australia.
