Former Indian batsman Sanjay Bangar was on Wednesday appointed batting consultant for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League team (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Bangar was the batting coach of the Indian men’s senior team for five years from 2014, when Ravi Shastri became the team director. He played this role till the 2019 World Cup, after which he was replaced by Vikram Rathour.
Bangar had to suffer the poor performance of Indian batsmen abroad. Bangar was removed from his post after the World Cup. Team India’s new coaching staff included head coach Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharath Arun but Bangar was not included.
RCB said in the tweet, ‘We are happy to welcome Sanjay Bangar as batting consultant for IPL 2021 in RCB family. Coach is welcome. ‘
The 48-year-old Bangar, who played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 2001 and 2004, will again join Indian captain Virat Kohli in this new role at RCB. RCB’s cricket operations director is Mike Hewson and head coach Simon Katich. The 14th season of the IPL will be held in India in the second week of April.
