September 24: Team India became T20 World Champion 13 years ago after defeating Pakistan in the final

September 24 is a very special day for India and Indian cricket fans. On the same day, India won the ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa 13 years ago. The T20 World Cup was played for the first time in the year 2007, in which India became the champion and captured this trophy under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The Indian team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the final by just 5 runs. Giants like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid did not play in this tournament and the young team won the trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared a video on social media remembering this victory. BCCI wrote, On this day in 2007, Team India created history and lifted the first ICC World T20 Trophy.

Team India scored 157 for 5 wickets in 20 overs thanks to a brilliant innings of opener Gautam Gambhir (75). Rohit Sharma returned unbeaten after scoring 30 runs off 16 balls. Chasing a target of 158, the Pakistani team was piled on 152 in 19.3 overs. Irfan Pathan was the man of the match, taking 3 wickets for 16 runs in 4 overs.

The final match of the T20 World Cup against Pakistan in Johannesburg was very exciting and India won in the last over. The Pakistani team, led by Shoaib Malik, needed 13 runs to win the last over with just one wicket remaining. At the crease there were Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Asif but bowler Joginder Sharma took away Misbah in just 3 balls and took away the victory and trophy from Pakistan.
