Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi has been facing anger on social media since the launch of the motion poster of his upcoming film ‘800’.
A few moments after the film’s motion poster was unveiled, the trend of ‘Shem on Vijay Sethupathi’ caught on Twitter in a big way. Netjens were angry with Vijay Sethupathi for the production of a film on Muralitharan, who had a controversial standoff between the Sri Lankan government and the decades-long civil war and the Tamil Eelam (LTTE), which demanded a separate state for the Tamils. In Sinhalese majority country.
The film is a biopic by Muttiah Muralitharan and Sethupathi plays the central role of the legendary Sri Lankan spinner. Fans are angry that the actor played the Tamil-origin cricketer, who had never spoken out against the alleged atrocities, who is said to have instigated the Tamil population of the country in the past by the Sri Lankan government.

“Always praised Vijay Sethupathi as an actor. But now he has extended respect to me by creating a history of the life of this traitor, who openly supported the modern-day dictator Rajapaksa. Murali himself said that 2009 was his life. The happiest year was #ShameOnVijaySethupati (sic). ”Wrote a user on Twitter.

‘800’ is said to be a moving portrayal of Muralitharan – one of cricket’s most brilliant and divisive characters. The film will be shot in Sri Lanka, UK, Australia and India. The shoot was launched in early 2021 and is set for release at the end of next year.
The film will be produced mainly in Tamil language. However, due to the popularity of Muralitharan and Sethupathi, the film will be dubbed in all South Indian languages as well as Hindi, Bengali and Sinhalese. An international version with English subtitles is also being planned.
Muralitharan is the only cricketer to have taken 800 wickets in Test cricket. In addition, he took 534 and 13 wickets in 350 ODIs and 12 T20Is respectively.
