India’s limited overs specialist Shreyas Iyer will take more time to return to competitive cricket as he has not fully recovered from shoulder surgery. Iyer was supposed to return to competitive cricket representing Lancashire in the Royal London Cup, but was forced to withdraw after he failed to make a full recovery from the injury.
Iyer had injured his left shoulder during an ODI against England in Pune earlier this year. He then underwent surgery in the UK. Shreyas has recently started net practice, but it is understood that he is still a long way from achieving the required fitness for the tournament which will run from July 22 to August 18.
“After discussions between the club, BCCI and players’ representatives, it was agreed that Iyer would remain in India before returning to cricket,” Lancashire County said in a statement issued here.
Iyer said, ‘I am sad to not be able to play for Lancashire this season. This is a club that has an illustrious history. I look forward to playing for this team at Emirates Old Trafford at some point in the future.
