Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer is extremely excited about his team’s comeback after four consecutive defeats in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is confident that he will be able to defeat defending champions Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier.
Delhi Capitals made it to the top two with an easy six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. He will now have to beat Mumbai on Thursday to reach the final.
Iyer said at the post-match press conference, ‘Mumbai Indians are one of the best teams. But I will also say that we also have a team of bold and excellent players.
He said, ‘It really depends on the performance of that day. He is very experienced in playing in this (finals) stage but on the match day, the team whose attitude is better and the one who performs well will be able to move forward.
Iyer said that it would be important to face pressure easily in the match against Mumbai in Dubai. He said, ‘We have to keep things simple but not complicated under pressure conditions. The way we were moving, it was a really good win and it would boost our morale a lot. This victory was necessary for us after four consecutive defeats. I am really happy with my players’ performance.
Meanwhile, Bangalore spinner Shahbaz Ahmed said that getting the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan was special. He said, ‘I got help from practice camp before IPL. Shikhar Dhawan’s first wicket in IPL and that too, is special. It is good that our net run rate was better and we were able to move ahead despite the loss.
