Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday removed David Warner from the captaincy and assigned New Zealand captain Kane Williamson the captaincy in the remaining matches of the IPL. Under Warner’s captaincy, the Sunrisers have lost five out of six matches while they are not in form as a batsman. The franchisee confirmed this on their social channels. This team is currently at the bottom of the table of eight teams.
“Sunrisers Hyderabad announce that Kane Williamson will be captain in tomorrow’s match and the rest of the IPL matches,” Sunrisers said in a statement. The club said, ‘The decision was not easy as management has respected that David Warner has inspired the franchise for many years. We are sure that David will continue to strive for success both on and off the field.
The team management said that in tomorrow’s match against Rajasthan Royals, it will also change the combination of foreign players. This means that Warner can be dropped from the team. In such a situation, Jason Holder can get his place.
Williamson has previously led Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He was named captain in 2018 after Warner was prevented from participating in that season of the tournament following the Sandpapergate feud in Cape Town.
