A stadium has been named in honor of former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi will now be known as Shoaib Akhtar Stadium. The fast bowler, known worldwide as Rawalpindi Express, has thanked everyone for this honor. He said that he has no words to express his happiness.
Sharing the picture, the world’s fastest bowler wrote – I am humbled and honored to change the name of KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi to Shoaib Akhtar Stadium. There are no words to express this honor. In fact I have no words to thank everyone for the love and respect that I have received over so many years.
He further wrote- I have always served Pakistan with full sincerity and dedication. Always kept your flag high. Today and everyday I wear ‘Star’ with pride on my chest. Akhtar has shared a picture of the stadium’s name on social media.
The 45-year-old fast bowler played 46 Tests for Pakistan and took 178 wickets, while 247 wickets in 163 ODIs. He also played 15 T20Is, taking 19 wickets.
