Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri on Friday said that the flood-hit northeastern state of Assam needs immediate attention and assistance. He said that people have lost their lives in many submerged districts in Assam and many people have been displaced.
So far more than 70 people have lost their lives due to floods and about 4 million people have been displaced in 26 districts of the state. Kaziranga National Park is also submerged about 90 percent.
Drawing attention to the disaster amid the Covid-19epidemic in the country, Chhetri wrote on his Twitter handle, 'With prayers, Assam needs attention and help is needed to overcome the floods.'
He wrote, “There has been a lot of loss in this disaster, which includes people and animals and I can only hope that their numbers do not increase.” He is the only player from the sports world to pay attention to the floods in Assam.
