New Delhi: Popular Tamil actor and comedian Vivek died on Saturday (April 17, 2021) after suffering a heart attack. The ‘Shivaji’ actor was admitted to the ICU on Friday morning and also underwent an ’emergency coronary angiogram’ after ‘angioplasty’ yesterday. The 59-year-old actor breathed his last in Chennai.
The news of his death shocked the South Indian film industry. Many celebrities including Samantha Akkineni, Genelia D’Souza and others mourned the actor on her social media and expressed grief and shock over her demise.

Superstar Rajinikanth also expressed his grief on his official Twitter account. He shared a note which wrote, “Vivek, a distinguished artist, social worker and my close friend is passing away.” Rajinikanth further stated in his post that he cannot forget the days spent with Vivek during the shoot of ‘Shivaji’. He wrote in his note, “My deepest condolences to his family.” may his soul rest in peace. “
Vivek was loved not only by his fans but also by his industry friends. Apart from being an actor, he was also a comedian, television personality and playback singer. He has acted in more than 220 films in his career and has also been awarded the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Vivek is survived by his wife and two children – Amritanandini, Tejaswini. Their second child Prasanna died in 2015 due to encephalitis.
