The makers of Thalaivi on Thursday unveiled the new portrait of Arvind Swamy as MG Ramachandran, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, on the death anniversary of the actor-turned-politician. In the loving memory of the late Chief Minister, Arvind Swamy reinvented himself as MGR and wrote: ‘It was not just an honor to play the role of Puraichi Thalaivar MGR, but a bigger responsibility. I thank director AL Vijay and producers Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh for having faith in me. I humbly post these photos in Thalaivar’s memory today. #Thalaivi # MGR # AravindaswamyMGR. ‘
Thalaivi, directed by AL Vijay, is based on the life story of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Kangana Ranaut in the lead role. MGR was a very important figure in Jayalalithaa’s life and career, but more later.
Talking about Thalaivi, producer Shailesh R Singh said, ‘It was overwhelming to see the warm response to the film’s earlier look, whether it was Kangana Ranaut’s portrayal of Jayalalithaa or Arvind Swamy’s first look of MGR . With every accolade, our responsibility to live and live up to the expectations of the audience is increasing. We have been very diligent about the details. We hope viewers keep showering their love on the film. ‘
The music of Thalaivi is composed by GV Prakash Kumar, while the famous writer of Bajrangi Bhaijaan Vijayendra Prasad has done the rope-way to oversee the writing process.
MG Ramachandran was Jayalalithaa’s mentor. Became actor-turned-politician after leaving DMK in 1972, formed political party AIADMK and returned to power in Tamil Nadu in 1977. He was the Chief Minister of the state for ten consecutive years until his death on 24 December 1987.
Earlier this year, Kangana Ranaut revealed her first look as Jayalalithaa and later shared several updates of her upcoming film. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
