Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag says opener Rohit Sharma will have an interesting match to play with Trent Boult’s inbound deliveries during the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand in Southampton from June 18.
Sehwag, who has redefined innings in Test cricket, feels Rohit’s ability and his recent form at the top of the order will certainly make him successful in Test matches in England.
Sehwag said, “There is no doubt that the pair of Trent Boult and Tim Southee will present a lot of challenges for the Indians. He can move the ball both ways and is very good bowling in partnership as well.
He said, ‘I would like to see the match between Boult vs Rohit Sharma. It will be wonderful to see if Rohit settles to the crease and plays Boult’s opening spell. It will be Rohit’s first opportunity to open the innings in England conditions, although his experience of playing Tests in 2014 will certainly help.
Sehwag, one of India’s prolific match-winners in the longer format, said, “Rohit is a brilliant batsman and he has played Test cricket in England in the past too (2014) so I think he will face the bowlers very well as That we saw recently when he opened the batting. No doubt he will score runs this time in England.
“Definitely like any opener, he has to be very careful in the first 10 overs and play the new ball to understand the conditions,” Sehwag said. I am sure he will get a chance to play his strokes.
