The fifth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) had to be postponed for the second time due to the Covid-19epidemic. Now TNCA is expecting the T20 Cricket Tournament to be hosted either in November this year or in March next year. The popular T20 league was scheduled to be held from June 10 to July 12 but was postponed by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) in May. The state had a high number of corona virus cases then.
TNCA wanted the event to be held in late July and September but is not in a position to host the league as the health crisis escalates. Honorary Secretary of TNCA RS Ramasamy said, 'TNCA was looking at the window from end of July / August to September that the fifth stage of TNPL could be played in this possible window but given the current Covid-19related issues in the state TNCA will not be in a position to host the tournament in this window.
He said, “We will see the possibility of organizing it in March in November 2020 or 2021.” Top players of the state like R Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar and M Vijay play in it. Players like Varun Chakraborty and R Sai Kishore who played in it were selected by the Indian Premier League teams. So far, more than 2.4 lakh corona virus cases have been reported in Tamil Nadu while 3,935 people have died in the state.
