Legendary spinner Anil Kumble had the feat of taking 10 wickets in a Test innings on this day (7 February). At the Ferozeshah Kotla ground in Delhi, Kumble achieved ‘Perfect 10’ in a Test match against Pakistan. Former Indian captain Kumble did this feat in 1999.
Kumble became the second bowler to take 10 wickets in a Test innings and the first Indian. Before that, Jim Laker had achieved all 10 wickets in a Test innings. Kumble also took 4 wickets in the first innings of the match and he became the man of the match with a total of 14 wickets.
India scored 252 in the first innings of the match, piling Pakistan on 172. After this, Team India captained by Mohammad Azharuddin, opener S.K. Ramesh (96) scored 339 runs and gave the target of 420 runs to the visiting team to win. Pakistan was trying to draw the match but Kumble dashed his hopes and gave the Indian team a convincing victory by 212 runs.
